– Carson Wentzy’s sophomore season at quarterback for the Arkansas Razorbacks has been a breakout for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, with the first-year quarterback passing for more than 3,500 yards and 26 touchdowns.

He led the Razorbacks to a 6-1 record and an 8-0 mark in the SEC this season.

“I’m so proud of him,” Razorbacks coach Bret Bielema said.

“He was our best quarterback in the league.

He had great vision.

He was a big part of that offense and we’ve got a lot of guys who can be better at that.”

The Razorbacks are 8-1 this season and have a strong resume of recruiting quarterbacks.

They have four players from the 2017 recruiting class.

They’ve also signed three other players this year, including four-star quarterback De’Andre Johnson.

“There are a lot more players who are really good than we thought, so I think that will be good,” Bielem said.

The 6-foot-2, 230-pound Wentz completed 67.5 percent of his passes this season for 3,913 yards and 20 touchdowns.

The No. 12 overall pick is averaging 25.3 yards per attempt and 12 touchdowns on 52.3 percent of the passes thrown for 5,872 yards and 42 touchdowns.

“Carson is an extremely talented guy,” Bielma said of Wentz.

“It’s exciting for him, he’s one of the most exciting players in the country.

He’s just a phenomenal athlete and has great poise and vision.”

The Arkansas quarterback is the No, 2 prospect in the 2017 class according to 247Sports.

He also has strong connections to the city of Little Rock, Arkansas.

The Razorback coaching staff also is thrilled with the recruitment of quarterback Treon Harris.

Harris is a redshirt junior and is coming off a career year with the Texas Longhorns.

He completed 69.5% of his throws for 3 in 20 games for Texas this season, including an impressive 6-0 campaign with a national title.

“We’re very happy to have Treon with us,” Bieledma said about Harris.

“That kid is one of our most talented quarterbacks.”
