Texas will hire former head coach Greg “Coach Schiano” Schiano as its next head coach, the school announced Tuesday.
Schiano, who led the Longhorns to a 10-2 record during his tenure, was fired following a 24-16 loss to Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl.
He had been the interim coach for the previous five years.
Schien said in a statement that he will remain as the offensive coordinator for the football team.
He was a graduate assistant and offensive line coach at Texas from 2001-05.
Schiatano, 57, has been with Texas since 2000.
He led the Texas offense to a 29-3 record in his final season, a program record, from 2004-06.
He helped the Longhorn program to three straight Big 12 championships, the first time the Longhors have done so since 1993.
Schiols first head coaching job was at LSU from 2001 until 2004, before being hired by Texas as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2010.
